the word for 2011

by 1 January 09, 2011

I've never had a word of the year. So this year I decided to rethink about my life and my business and how that could translate into a word....I also received a little prompt from Liz at Liz Kalloch Designs and thought it would be a great way to have something I could come back to each time life seemed a little out of control or just not in focus. So, my word for the year is: REST. What does this word mean to me? Well, it means taking time for a big deep breath, putting my feet up for 10 minutes to recharge at the end of the day, and taking time to really soak in my surroundings. How will I do this? Sometimes I find it hard to breath....I have so much going on that anxiety gets in the way of me doing the things I need to do. I have a tendency to freak out and then move on....I would like to be able to approach things in my life with a little more calmness and a little more ease. I started Pilate's with my good friend Susie last fall and it has proven to be my little breath of fresh air at least a few times a week. This has helped immensely. Along with this I hope to add swimming and walking back into my daily routine. We'll see how I do.... Putting my feet up for 10 minutes of recharge...I have done this since I was in college. One of my professors used to tell us that at the end of the day he would go into his room, draw is shades, take off his shoes and lay quietly on his bed for 10 minutes with no distractions. He said that this would help him to be able to move on with the rest of the evening in a calmed and relaxed fashion. Somewhere along the way I stopped doing this and I restarted at the beginning of December. Trust me it works. I actually look forward to this time every day. 10 minutes is not enough to make you too sleepy (unless you are so tired that you do fall asleep; I say if you are there, take the sleep you must need it) but enough to clear your mind and rejuvenate your soul..... Take time to really take in your surroundings. I live in a stunning beautiful area of the country and I think too often we take it for granted. Where ever I travel this year even if it is to the mailbox I vow to take a moment and really soak up what is around me. If I could write down three things I see each day that truly amaze me in my surroundings, think of the list I would have at the end of the year. I have been taking a photography class since December which has helped me to start looking at my surroundings in a different way so writing along with photography and my surroundings will provide me with the rest I am seeking. Do you have a word for the year? If so, I would love for you to share it....How 'bout a color or a song? One of my meet-up friends, Deborah, has added a color and song to her list for the year. Check her out at graysonstudios......she also has some amazing dolls that she makes... So there you have it, its in writing which means I am accountable to myself and my word R E S T....
