Kindness and Community

With the first redlinedesign® Handmade Holiday completed, I wanted to take a moment and reflect on the event and what it meant to me and to some of the individuals that attended this past Saturday. First of all, I have to say a huge thank you to the artists involved in creating such incredible work -- Angie Allen, Jumping Jack Designs; Mary Burrows, MB Art Studios; Deb Lloyd, artist; Kristen Grimm, photographer; and Jodee Keysor, Aura De La Femme. In addition, Wendy Nason, artist and therapist for sharing a wonderful message through her bookmarks and inclusion in our day. Secondly, I have to thank all the amazing women who attended this event and shared such enthusiasm before, during and after. One comment I received from a dear friend was that our event inspired her so much that she wanted to only give handmade gifts this holiday and wanted them to be from her friends. It also inspired her to pick up knitting needles and start knitting as she used to do.... The reason for me that this was so inspiring was because, I truly felt I had made a difference in a group of people's lives. It wasn't about the money or the investment of time but more about the inspiration it gave this group of people. Reno has been hit hard by the economy and all in this community are feeling its clutches in different ways. In the last two weeks I have personally felt challenged as my neighbor has lost their house, my daughters school has had a fire and I have found two friends struggling with illness I did not know they had. But somehow through this event, we created something that will have a lasting effect on all of us. I am proud and honored to be a part of this community and to be a part of this group of most amazing artists and kind friends that came out to support us. In my mind this is just the beginning of a great journey, one that I hope you will all take with me....Happy Holidays everyone and thank you for sharing this special day at my home....

Beautiful post, Sarah! I agree, despite the heartaches we’ve seen all around us, our community has a knack for rallying together for great moments of solidarity. It’s inspirational. Thanks for letting me be a part of such a joyful day. It was perfect.
