Today is the first in a series of posts by past participants of Create Explore Discover Art Retreat. Our guest today is my friend Caroline. Caroline attended CED in its inaugural year and has used what she learned to help her in her pursuit to raise awareness of food allergies in the state of Nevada and beyond. These are her words and photos:

Taking away what I learned at the retreat two years ago, I recently created a very meaningful thank you gift for Nevada Senator Debbie Smith.

She led the charge to creating a law that would protect all students with diagnosed and undiagnosed allergies. The law is life saving.

We presented her with two necklaces, one featuring artwork from children across Nevada expressing their gratitude and love. The purpose of this necklace to allow her to keep the love from the children close to her heart.

The second necklace featured an art piece from a local food allergy mom and artist. The large heart represents the parent and the little red heart is the child on their journey of independence into the world while managing life threatening allergies.

My son Cyrus designed each piece and I used my skills learned at the retreat to create the bezels containing the artwork.

Senator Smith was moved with emotion to receive such a heart felt thank you and reminder for her to continue to work for children of Nevada.

THANK YOU Create, Explore and Discover for bring me a beautiful medium that I was able to use to create a “group” effort in expressing our gratitude and love of another person.

Registration is now open for this years retreat. To find out more and to join us: createexplorediscover            You can find out more about Caroline on her blog: the grateful foodie
