This past Friday evening, I had the honor of joining Susannah Conway and some lovely ladies at the Teahouse Studio in Berkley, for the book tour of Susannah’s book: this i know, notes on unraveling the heart. I have been following Susannah’s work for the last few years and was excited to finally meet her in person. Just as I suspected she was as lovely in person as she is on her website and in her e-courses. I have never been to a book reading or signing before so this was a real treat for me. I had just completed the book a few days before so when Susannah read passages, I felt as though I had already been to those experiences and was able to feel them on a whole different level.
Susannah read from several different parts of the book, followed by a question and answer session, then finally, the book signing and refreshments.
Here is an excerpt from one of my favorite chapters:
“Forgiveness. What a lovely concept that is. It’s a word that makes me think of flowing white robes and smiling benevolence; it’s something I’ve had to cultivate in my life as a way to move through past hurts and let go of difficult feelings. But why is it so hard to forgive myself? I don’t know where this expectation that I have to be perfect came from, but it’s woven through my being like mold through stilton. Some forgiveness of my flaws, of my very human fears and frailties, would help me move forward with a kinder perspective; constantly beating myself up achieves nothing-I know, I’ve tried.”
and some photos of the evening:
“this i know” is definitely a book to share with your girlfriends and a book you will want to read more than once. The writing is beautiful, the Polaroid photographs stunning and the story one you will identify with on many different levels. Thank you so much for sharing yourself, Susannah – you are a true artist and a kind and generous soul….
