On a recent trip to Sydney, Australia I had the opportunity to visit The Society, Inc. the storefront and studio of Sibella Court.
I have followed Sibella’s work for a number of years and her book etcetera, etc. was the inspiration behind my very first post on this site 3-1/2 years ago(2-4-09 to be exact). Her words:
“A random selection of shiny, pretty things represents the starting point of a colour and decorating theme. When developing your own interior style, begin your own collection of assorted goodies and regularly sort them into like-minded piles; you’ll soon discover a pattern emerging and start hatching plans for bigger ideas” Sibella Court, Etcetera Etc. Creating Beautiful Interiors with the Things You Love. Murdoch Books, Australia excerpt from INSIDEOUT Magazine (November/December 2009 Issue)
This is my 2nd visit to her shop and I was excited to explore the interior to see what goodies I could find. There are so many vignettes in the shop that as a designer and creative I got over excited with all the offerings and secrets to uncover.
ribbon, numbers, and shells
nails, twine, and housewares
numbers and shells
bits and pieces and her books
fabric and binding
On the day of my visit, Sibella was at the shop and photographing objects outside on the sidewalk. We chatted for a few minutes and I found her to be friendly, welcoming and excited for her own creative explorations of the day. If you go, check ahead as she sometimes closes the shop to rearrange and redesign the interior. On my first visit the shop was actually closed so I could only photograph the exterior. Sibella has three books available at the moment: Ecetera, The Stylists Guide to NYC and Nomad. She has a fourth book coming out later this year called: Bowerbird.
Thanks Sibella for giving me permission to take these photographs and for providing such an inspirational space to visit.
