design ? friday – home theater renovation

by Sarah September 16, 2011

It has been ages since I  have shared an interiors project with you. Today, I am sharing a renovation that I am doing in my own home. We have a wonderful home theater room next to our living room that needed a few minor changes. The room was originally carpeted but our puppy Louie enjoyed using the room in his potty training days and thus forced the renovation of the room sooner than we had intended.

This week I will share before photos with you and then once the room is fully completed I will share the after photos (I am waiting on one lamp to be delivered and then I can share all that we have done)

So in this first photo, the basic framework of the room will remain.

a. existing artwork will remain and new artwork will be added to the room.

b. The wall color was painted when we first built the house seven years ago and will remain.

c. new hardwood flooring will replace the existing carpet (it was being replaced when I got this shot) and matches the hardwood already installed throughout the house.

In addition to removing the carpet, we are upgrading our home theater equipment that is 10 years old. New technology, required this update and my husband and son are avid home theater guys so new an entire new wall of product had to be produced to suit their needs and a minimal budget.

a. new 3D flat screen TV (already purchased before renovations-note all the wires-that allows us to hear everything in every room and the back yard and front porch…

b. exiting artwork and cabinets to be replaced with new artwork.

c. we have north facing double door that leads directly to our back yard. some days there is glare on the TV screen so we will be adding additional window covering to block out the light.

Check in with me next time when I share the color palette and additional purchases for the room. Have a great Friday everyone…..
