{window scape}

The other night I was at dinner with my children and one of their friends. As I was chatting with them, I looked up and noticed the light coming through the window and the shadows it made on the wall. It made everything into a series of patterns and blocks of space. I captured it with my iphone because by adding it to my inspiration pool, I can now use pattern and shape and blocking for creation of an art piece at a later date. The iphone is an invaluable tool for recording inspiration in a quick and easy fashion.

{new sketches}

I’ll be writing more about these two sketches in a book review soon but in the meantime, I have been photographing my work and sharing it on instagram as a way to see what it looks like in another form. It is really important for artists and creatives to develop a way of looking at their work through different mediums and seeing how the reaction to a piece changes by how it is expressed, photographed, sketched and shared. I will be doing this more and more over the next few months as an experiment into my own creativity while I am on this 100 Wednesdays journey.

{you are here – today’s sketch}

Sketching and exploring can also be a fantastic way to start to develop a line of products or begin a series of work that can be part of a larger project. I could see these two sketches turning into cards, prints, patterns for tote bags or home decor items. What do you see when you look at your own work? What inspires you to keep on being creative?

I have recently begun to place all the photos from the 100 Wednesdays project in one place so that you can begin to see how it has developed since I began last year. You can find it under my portfolio – 100 Wednesdays.

Have a great day everyone…
